So, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a long time, and I gotta say, I have some concerns. I do a lot of "high risk" activities on my computer (cracked software, movie downloads etc), so you would think I would get quite a few alerts from my antivirus software, but I haven't. So im looking to switch antiviruses. I'm looking for free anti-virus software, and why you might reccomend it.
Yep, You can use Avast, it's ok but I recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's great, free and a powerful tool to remove any malware or virus. I think it is the best free protection for any PC. And there are easy ways to get the Premium version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (search google).

as some of you may know, I am very limited on HDD space. I tried to install avast, but it wants 2GB to install. I ain't got that kind of space. I should have mentioned in the OP that it has to be light on resources, and CANNOT be Norton, McAfee, or AVG. I absolutely detest those vendors for many reasons, norton mainly because their parent company Symantec had a decent breach when hackers stole their source code for PCAnywhere, and McAfee I don't need to explain, and AVG has more false positives than you could throw a rock at
