the site is still down but I managed to find the file at http://www.gamefront.com/files/9575175/hlsw_1_2_1_setup.exe

not sure if it's the latest version. I'll install it this evening and test.

You're welcome. There's another similar utility, PingPlotter Standard, that I use to monitor all our servers 24x7 but it costs $25 and HLSW does pretty much the same thing for free.

That's quite an old version. Disappointing that the site is down still.

Site is back up, here:

Here's a couple more examples of the type of problem you might spot with HLSW:

Packets dropped/timeout (solid red lines):

Packets delayed (red-tipped lines):
HLSWgraph4.png
HLSWgraph4.png (83.97 KiB) Viewed 536 times

Both cases would have looked like lag in the game, but the problem actually occurred earlier along the route to the server (upper graphs/hops), and did not start on the server itself (hop 13, the last graph).

Exactly the same problem and from that same Island... And my pings are so inconsistent on US servers, same goesfor crysis,On an Aus server they are very stable and low around 60 but on user server is anywhere from 250 - 500 but usally round 300, and UK servers are even worse! :crazy TECHNUT!!! We need an AUS Based Server!!!! :crazy im fine with pistols but when it comes to rockets i can never hit, even at point blank and i can never dodge them, even when they look miles away i still die...

I'm not to handy with this network stuff, but if my connection is quick enough and good enough( see below), there's not much i can do when i get lost connection or lag, is there?
(campaign runs without a problem, no lag or anything else, just when I'm online, so must be the connection)

looks ok to me,
yet i have quit a bit of trouble with my connection, up to " network connection lost",

Cool suggestions Technut but quick question?

Is it possible for other players to use a network tool / script to specifically target another player's IP online/in game and cause ping issues until they drop from the game?

I guess I'm paranoid after I've seen other players threaten to bomb other's IP in revenge somehow of battles in game. Or is this all just idle threats?

If this "is" possible, then does POQ admin's watch for hacker-ish activity in game?

Thanks,

The short answer is No, they are probably making empty threats.

If they *had* your IP address, then yes they could do a Denial Of Service (DOS) attack on your IP and cause lag for you.

BUT.... there is no way to use Halo to determine what your IP address is, even if they are in the same game as you. Only the server (game host) gets the IP address of each player. Other players cannot see the IP address of fellow players.

So they'd have to use some other way to figure out what your IP address is in order to target it.

If you're not in communication with them in any way (other than playing a game of Halo with them) then they don't know your IP address and therefore they can't target an attack at you.

So next time someone in Halo threatens to attack you in some way, you can ignore them. Or if it's in one of our servers, report them to us.
