There have been some significant changes since we originally posted about Halo Online back in March 2015. The game is going to be something like Halo 3, but for PC instead of Xbox.
The alpha/beta phase of the Official (and only for Russia) free-to-play version of the game has ended. But surprisingly it has not led to a production version... yet. Instead the project is going back into development. Here's the translated official statement:
Servers will be switched off on Friday, December 25th. We are faced with a number of issues that are critical to the project, so along with 343 Industries, we decided to stop the tests and significantly change the game client. Finalization will take a few months, exactly how much - is unknown.
But it's not all bad news. The unofficial version for the rest of us (called ElDorito / ElDewrito) has had a lot of work put into it by various unofficial modders/developers
What is ElDorito? It is the original unofficial mod project that made it possible to use the Halo Online files to explore the maps and play on a LAN or VPN.
What is ElDewrito? It is a second unofficial mod project that adds the ability to play multiplayer online and to host games online. It also includes a software updater to install the latest files and it's the program you use to launch Halo Online.
