On Hostile Turf Pt. 5
"it's about dang time" and "better late than never" are both being considered as slogans for the series at this time. The focus groups will get back to us...eventually.
The master chief looked up as the first huge raindrops splattered on the ground around him. "Rain. Oh joy," he thought to himself.
*Trael, Come in.*
"I read you Rex, go ahead."
*You want the good news first, or the bad news?*
"Good news first, I suppose."
"We got the intel you requested, and then some. I have confidence we'll be able to drum up a good attack plan once Hazard and I return to you."
*And the bad news?*
"Well, It would seem the Covenant haven't been sitting idly by watching grass grow. They know where the convoy is parked and they're coming in force to destroy it. Three wraith artillery tanks and eight scout vehicles."
*How far away?'*
"Their faster vehicles should arrive just a few minutes after we do, sir."
"That's.. less than good. Alright, make the best time you can back here, we'll worry about attacking their base later."
*Affirmative. Rex out.*
"Alright men, listen up. Rex and Hazard are on their way back right now with the intel we'll need to successfully take the fight to the enemy....But there's a sizable force of enemy troops just a few minutes behind them, headed here. We don't know how they found us, but it is a moot point. What matters is that they have, and they are planning to destroy us."
"Now, Rex has informed me that they are bringing three Wraith tanks and several light vehicles. That means they'll likely try to keep the Elephant and other vehicles pinned in one spot with the lighter craft while the Wraiths shell us from a distance. We cannot allow that to happen. our Elephant is tough, but it cannot sustain Wraith artillery shots for long. The one thing we can count on is the fact that they don't know that we know they're coming. Therefore, we're going to utilize speed and firepower to destroy their heavy weapons before they can cause significant damage."
"Xbot, when Hazard gets back, I want you to get on his mongoose with your rocket launcher ready. Epic, Rauko, and Rockstar; take the missile warthog. I want to utilize fast, nimble firepower to disable or destroy their slow, heavy weapons. Rourke, keep the tank nearby, but mobile. I want you here in case the wraiths decide to engage from a closer distance. Jordan and viper, take the MG hog out about 50 feet from the elephant and guard against the light vehicles. Dismissed."
With that, the master chief turned back around, walking across the rain-slick surface of the Elephant, saying one thing to himself as he did so.
"Come on, you alien bastards. We're waiting for you."
Notes: Yes, it has taken abhorrently long to get this episode out, and yes that's (mainly) my fault. However, the coming weeks should calm down a bit comparatively, so I'm hoping I'll have more time to work on this.
Also, I had originally promised a double feature this time around, but due to life being crazy busy lately (re-roofing/siding & painting our house, plus work and fixing my truck) that simply wasn't possible.
